The Call for European Heritage Stories intends to identify the European Dimension of heritage sites and heritage work undertaken by the communities in Europe. It refers to past or existing "stories" that communities would like to share and potentially develop into a project to further contribute to their communities. The Call for European Stories was launched as an activity of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, the successes of which it now aims to build on, and supports the European Framework for Action on Cultural Heritage, adopted in December 2018 to secure the long term impact of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
In the framework of the joint vision of shared European values, the Call is also open to the EU Prize for Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Award winners and the European Heritage Label sites.
One of the main goals of the initiative is to encourage European Heritage Communities to collect Stories about their projects, initiatives and activities, and to recognize their efforts in two ways: by promoting their Stories and by awarding the highest scoring dossiers with a grant of up to €10 000.
Please note that this first stage calls for a simple outline of a project proposal to be submitted, along with a fully developed Story. Pre-selected project proposals will be given one additional month to submit a more detailed dossier.
The Council of Europe is also happy to welcome European Heritage Stories without a project proposal.
